Optimizing Finance Testing

Context

The client had a request to review testing processes in the finance sphere since they think its methods were not efficient. They used Java for backend, AWS, and event-based architecture style, AngularJS for front. Java for automation.

Challenge

First problem: Since they had 8k+ autotests, they were pretty unstable hence feedback was delayed. Second problem: Not transparent work of automation team - no visualization how engineers work. Third problem: Some of the engineers were low skilled, hence needed to review the skills of the team and give a feedback for each engineer.

Solution

To make a complex review of testing per our metrics. Conducted 1-2-1 with engineers. Communicate improvements with stakeholders.

Results

We reviewed a testing pyramid, gave feedback for each engineer, made a plan how to mitigate issues with unstable tests. Prepared next steps how customer should implement our improvements.
